Wedding photographer in Ibiza
Two islands, a thirty-minute ferry and the same light.
You are getting married in Ibiza and you want someone who knows the island, not someone who flies in that morning and works off a map.
I'm Marcel, photographer and videographer. I live in Formentera all year round and I'm in Ibiza regularly for work: portrait and fashion sessions, and yacht shoots for charter companies on the island such as Smart Charter Ibiza and Windrose Ibiza. So far, all the weddings I've shot have been in Formentera. Ibiza I know from working with businesses on the island. I know exactly when the sun goes down next to Es Vedrà in September, and why you need to be at Cala Comte before seven.
Photo and video on the same day, one person to talk to, in English, Spanish or German. No travel surcharge anywhere in the Balearics: Ibiza, Formentera, Mallorca and Menorca.

Where to take your wedding photos in Ibiza
These are the places couples who write to me ask about most, and the ones that work best in the evening light. The wedding itself is almost always at a finca, a villa or an agroturismo; this list is for the couple portraits, before or after the ceremony.
Es Vedrà and Cala d'Hort
The rock off the west coast is the best-known backdrop on the island. The sun goes down right next to it and the light lasts until the very last minute. Es Vedrà is a nature reserve: portraits yes, drone towards the rock only with a permit.
Cala Comte
Clear water, small islands and the sun setting straight ahead over the sea. In July and August it gets crowded, so I plan the portraits for the last hour, when most people are already leaving.
Benirràs
A cove in the north, tucked between hills, facing the sunset. On summer Sundays it fills up in the evening, though the drum circles of old are now regulated; on a weekday it is a different place.
Dalt Vila
The old town walls and streets, with side light in the afternoon. It is the natural plan B when it's windy on the coast: there is always a sheltered corner.
Santa Gertrudis and the countryside
Fincas, almond trees and dirt tracks. This is where many weddings take place, and where the portraits happen without leaving the venue: the light coming through the trees at seven does most of the work.
Ses Salines and Es Cavallet
A long beach, dunes and Formentera on the horizon. It's a natural park: very good for sunset portraits, but you can't hold the celebration there and the drone stays grounded without authorisation.

The light in Ibiza: plan the day around sunset
The most common mistake is setting the ceremony time around lunch and leaving the portraits for when the sun is still high and harsh. I do it the other way round: I start with what time the sun sets that day, and we build the ceremony, drinks and portraits around that.
In Ibiza the sun sets at 21:23 on 21 June, around 20:05 in mid-September and at 19:37 on 1 October. The best light for portraits starts an hour before that. A six o'clock ceremony in June means portraits with the sun still high; at half past seven the light is just right.
May, June, September and October have the best light and the fewest people. July and August work just as well, but it's hotter at midday and the coves need a bit more planning.
Ibiza, no surcharge
I live in Formentera. The ferry to Ibiza takes about 30 minutes from La Savina, and I take it several times a month for work. So I don't charge for getting to Ibiza: no ferry, no travel time.
If your wedding is in Formentera and your guests are staying in Ibiza, I also help you work out the timings: which ferry to take, how much margin to leave before the ceremony and where to do the portraits near the port if the schedule is tight.
For weddings over several days, or when getting ready starts very early, we look together at whether it makes sense for me to stay overnight in Ibiza. We agree that upfront and it's written into the quote.
What an island wedding looks like
My most recent wedding film is from Formentera, half an hour from Ibiza: a villa above Cala Saona, a September afternoon and two families from two countries at the same table. The light, the wind and the timings are the same as in Ibiza, and so is the way I work: know the place beforehand, plan the day around the sun and never get in the way.

Frequently asked questions
Do you work all over Ibiza?
Yes, from Portinatx to Ses Salines. Fincas, villas, agroturismos, hotels and beaches.
Do you charge travel to Ibiza?
No. Ibiza, Formentera, Mallorca and Menorca come with no surcharge. If the wedding means I need to stay overnight, we talk about that beforehand.
Will you help us choose the spot for the portraits?
Yes. On the video call we look at the venue, the ceremony time and the sunset, and I suggest two or three options nearby.
Can you fly the drone in Ibiza?
I'm AESA-licensed for commercial drone work. In nature reserves such as Es Vedrà or Ses Salines a specific permit is needed; I'll tell you in advance where it's possible and where it isn't.
Do you do both photo and video?
Yes, both. On Esencial I do them myself; on the photo-plus-video Clásico and Diamante there are two professionals.
How far ahead should we book?
Dates from May to October are usually booked around six months ahead, but gaps do come up closer to the time. Write to me as soon as you have a date and a venue.
Which languages do you work in?
English, Spanish and German, with you, your families and the suppliers.
Do you also photograph proposals in Ibiza?
Yes. I have proposal packages from €650, also with no surcharge in Ibiza.
